Applications for AMSI Winter School 2018 includes both the submission of the Application Form, as well as the School Fee payment via the UQPay payment gateway. Without submitting both the application form and paying the School Fee, your application will NOT be finalised.

Please note: Unsuccessful applications will be eligible for a full refund of the School Fees.

In addition, regional and/or interstate applicants from an AMSI Member Institution may also be eligible to apply for a Grant to assist with the costs of travel, accommodation and/or caring responsibilities to attend the school. To apply for a Grant, an additional Grant Application Form must be submitted. To view the eligibility criteria, and find out more, please visit the Grants page.

Please note: Grant Applications only cover travel and accommodation expenses/arrangements for the applicant only. Any student wishing to bring partners and/or dependents must contact the Winter School Director prior to completing their grant application form.


The Application Form will take approx. 10-15 minutes to complete, and will ask applicants to answer a number of questions, including a requirement to supply the contact details of a ‘Referee’, who is able to comment on their research and/or academic experience. AMSI Winter School organisers must be able to contact this person (if required) to confirm the suitability of the applicant to the program, and/or discuss the applicant’s academic record.

The Application Form will also require the submission of the following Supporting Documentation:

  • Letter of Support – from a current supervisor, honours coordinator, and/or head of school/department to support the attendance at AMSI Winter School 2018.
  • One (1) Page CV – including a summary of research interests, activities and/or thesis topic.

Once the Application Form has been completed, you will be redirected to the University of Queensland’s UQPay payment page. Your application will not be completed until payment has been made. If your application is unsuccessful, a full refund of the School Fees will be provided.

Can I access AMSI Member rates? How do I know if I am an AMSI Member?

AMSI Members are:

  • Staff currently employed at an AMSI Member Institution
  • Students currently enrolled at an AMSI Member Institution

No individual AMSI Membership is required. See the full list of AMSI Member Institutions to see if you are eligible.


Acceptance of AMSI Winter School 2018 applications is at the discretion of the Event Director, and applicants will be notified via email (to the address provided on the form) the outcome of their application to the School within 2 weeks of applications closing.

Applicants must confirm their acceptance of an offer, following the instructions provided in the notification email by the due date.


Any applicant who wishes to withdraw their application or attendee who wishes to withdraw from participating at AMSI Winter School 2018 must notify the AMSI Winter School 2018 Event Director via email at

Refunds of the School Fee will be provided for withdrawals received up until 24 June 2018. Withdrawals after this time may not be eligible for a refund.
